If you are from California like me, "Disney" and "waterpark" are two words you're not used to hearing in the same sentence. But for those in Florida, Blizzard Beach is one of the most desired traveling spots at the Walt Disney World Resort.
This last "Life of a Cast Member" post gives us a peek into a DCP student's (Disney College Program) story and the adventures he experienced while working as a Deep Water Lifeguard inside Blizzard Beach. By answering a few interview questions, I was able to get a picture of their magical, humid world. Huge thanks to Disney redditor JoseT90 for participating in my three part blog post! Was there an experience you had that almost scared you into finishing the college program? JoseT90-- Scary situations came with the job actually! Since I was a lifeguard I always had to be on the look out for people in distress. Some of the ICP lifeguards and me had a pool about how many times we had to jump in and/or save someone. My official number in those 7 months was 23. I had to jump in pretty much in most deep water rides. From the End of Snow Falls to the Wave Pool in TL. What are some of the more unbelievable things that happened to you while on the job? (used in previous post, Part 1) JoseT90-- An Asian couple rented the entire park for a day because they were getting married and wanted to use the park to take photos. Legally, since they went into the water sometimes, it was required to have a lifeguard with them. This applied EVERYWHERE. We went into the cave, the grotto, the beach, the kid sections, the mountain, etc. This couple was pretty wealthy. They were having fun and I loved the easy money but to this day I didn't understand why would anyone take their pics in a water park (I mean go with Magic Kingdom or somewhere with the characters!) or why they would ruin their designer clothes.
Any other fun facts you want to share? JoseT90-- Have an Ice Day (we had to say this as a greeting and a goodbye to guests on Blizzard Beach lol) Also, Christmas music has been ruined to anyone working on Blizzard Beach after a month of working there because it plays everyday all day long! Long since I visited WDW for a short trip in 2007, I have wanted to go back. There is no doubt in my mind that this future vacation will include a stop by Blizzard Beach. Appreciating how the Disney magic is represented within a waterpark would be a unique experience I am certainly looking forward to. Sadly, JoseT90 won't be there to save me from the Runoff Rapids or fish out my Mickey bracelet that I lose in the pool, but hopefully he is happy in his current endeavors! As a frequent park visitor, I am so thankful for all the Disney Cast Members out there. Helpful, considerate and always wearing a smile, they definitely add to the park's joyful experience and make our trips that much better. To all my interviewees and Disney park workers everywhere- Thank You, from the bottom of our hearts. You make our vacations even more special! All right earheads, that will do it for my three part blog series- Life of a Cast Member. Thanks for following along!
